SomaSoma is the miraculous pill-based drug that allows everyone in our society to forget their problems. In small doses, soma induces a light, euphoric buzz that can take the edge off of the boredom of a rainy day or an especially long commute. In larger doses, however, soma allows the person taking it to forget their problems entirely and go on a pleasant hallucination called a holiday for a time period averaging at around ten hours. Remember: "one square centimeter cures ten gloomy sentiments!" (Huxley 60). Our beloved World State gives us a ration of soma every day, but in the barbarousness of Pre-War civilization (if you could call it that) drugs were mostly illegal and you could be punished severely for using them (DEA).

Birthing Process
One of our society's most Fordly practices is the bottling process, which allows humans to be created without the disgusting practice of parentage. First, the ova are fertilized (similar to the pre-War practice of In-vitro fertilization) and kept for 36 hours until it is decided whether Bokanovsky's process can be undergone or not, depending on the predestined caste of the fertilized egg (Nordqvist). If it is chosen to undergo the process, it undergoes "a series of arrests in development" that causes the egg to bud into a number ranging between eight and 96, depending on chance and the number of measures taken to check their growth. This allows greater efficiency and more oneness in the state: Socializing is so much easier when the people working beside you are your identical twins!
The Centrifugal Bumble-puppy and Other Amusements
The Centrifugal Bumble-puppy is a wonderful invention. As everyone knows, the way it works is that "a ball [is] thrown up so as to land on the the platform at the top of the tower [roll] down into the interior, [fall] on a rapidly revolving disk, [be] hurled through one or other of the numerous apertures pierced in the cylindrical casing, and [have] to be caught" (Huxley 37). Much like other games such as obstacle golf and escalator squash, the centrifugal bumble-puppy was made to be a complicated machine that cost as much money as possible. This way the game keeps money flowing and the economy as healthy as horse. Also, they are great activities to play with friends, so there's no excuse for being alone and not contributing to society.
